Group Demands Resignation of INEC Chairman Over Bias Allegations

A group in Abuja has called for the immediate resignation of INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, accusing him of bias and improper interference in the internal affairs of political parties, specifically the PDP and SDP. The group, represented by spokesperson Aisha Bello, criticized Amupitan for allegedly overstepping his mandate and compromising the neutrality of INEC.

They highlighted concerns about recent actions that they believe undermine the independence and impartiality of the electoral umpire. Additionally, senior lawyer Professor Sebastian Hon faulted the Sharia Council of Nigeria for calling for Amupitan's removal, citing constitutional provisions that govern the process of removing the INEC Chairman.

The group emphasized the importance of an impartial electoral process to maintain Nigeria's democracy.
