Pape Gueye, a midfielder for the Senegal national football team, has decided to take a break from international football following Senegal's elimination from the World Cup. This decision comes after Senegal's coach, Pape Thiaw, allowed a 2-0 lead to slip, resulting in a dramatic defeat to Belgium in the Round of 32.

Gueye, who plays for La Liga side Villarreal in Spain, was substituted in the 66th minute of the match. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the coaching staff and indicated that he would not return to the national team until there are changes in management.

Gueye has earned 45 caps for Senegal and scored twice during the group stage, including a goal against Iraq. The team's controversial exit from the tournament was marked by a penalty awarded to Belgium in the 125th minute, which led to their victory.

Senegal's appeal to regain the title from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, which they lost to Morocco, remains unresolved.
