Kane's goal came from a flick off Djed Spence's cross during first-half stoppage time. Despite dominating possession, England found it challenging to create clear-cut chances against a New Zealand side ranked 81 places lower in the world rankings.

Thomas Tuchel, the current coach of England, fielded two entirely different teams in each half, with Marcus Rashford having a notable chance that went wide. Ivan Toney replaced Kane among 11 changes made by Tuchel.

Although England managed to maintain their lead, they could not extend it further, while New Zealand was content to keep the score down. England aims to reach at least the quarter-finals in the upcoming World Cup, where they will face Croatia on June 10.
