Nigerian Army Confirms Detention of Activist Chidieber

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the detention of activist Chidieber, who was last seen on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, after leaving home to meet someone. His wife reported him missing after multiple attempts to contact him failed, describing the situation as unusual.

The Army's statement indicated that Chidieber had engaged in discussions that allegedly incited discontent among soldiers, posing a serious risk to military discipline and national security. Following preliminary investigations, Chidieber was arrested alongside a soldier, with both currently in military custody.

The Army emphasized that their actions were within legal limits and committed to the rule of law. Chidieber's wife has appealed to the Nigerian government for her husband's return, stating their children need their father.

Activist Omoyele Sowore has also called for Chidieber's release, alleging abuse of welfare among frontline soldiers.
