The situation arose following a press address by Turaki at the PDP secretariat, highlighting the need for foreign intervention to save democracy in Nigeria. APC spokesperson, Felix Morka, labeled Turaki's call as reckless and unpatriotic, while Bola Tinubu accused Turaki of committing high treason.

The incident occurred amidst a prolonged standoff within the PDP.
