Tinubu Calls for Accountability from State Governments

On Friday night, President Bola Tinubu addressed media executives at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja, urging them to hold state and local governments accountable for their financial management. He highlighted the need for greater financial autonomy and reform at the local government level, stressing that no state in Nigeria currently borrows money to pay salaries.

Tinubu pointed out that many states struggle with salary payments and have resorted to federal bailouts during periods of low oil revenue. He acknowledged the media's role in challenging government performance and expressed gratitude for their scrutiny, despite facing harsh criticism.

Tinubu also discussed the economic challenges affecting the media industry, particularly regarding funding sources, and promised to address tariff issues impacting media operations. He emphasized that he accepts full responsibility for the outcomes of his policies and noted that the country is recovering from economic difficulties, citing improvements in foreign exchange management and inflation control.
