Nigerian Man on Death Row in Saudi Arabia to be Released After $570k Raised

Suleimon Olufemi, a Nigerian man on death row in Saudi Arabia, is set to be released following the payment of $570,000 in blood money raised by individuals and organizations including Seyi Tinubu and Governor Sanwo-Olu. The Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) confirmed Olufemi's imminent release after collaborative efforts.

Olufemi was sentenced to death for the killing of a Saudi police officer, but diplomatic efforts and fundraising led to the agreement for his release. Various officials, including President Buhari and NIDCOM's former legal director Abdullahi Bello, played key roles in securing Olufemi's freedom.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of NIDCOM, disclosed the development after a plea for clemency made by Olufemi's family.
