House of Representatives Moves to Amend South-South Act

The House of Representatives has commenced efforts to amend the South-South Development Commission Act of 2025. This initiative aims to strengthen the commission's financial base and enhance its capacity to fulfill its development mandate across the South-South region.

The public hearing was held in Abuja, where stakeholders engaged in discussions regarding the proposed amendments. Speaker of the House, Mr.

Tajudeen Abba, emphasized the significance of establishing the South-South Development Commission as a major legislative milestone. Mr.

Juliu Gbabojor Pondi, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on South-South Development Commission, stated that the South-South region contributes a substantial proportion of resources to the federal coffers but operates within limited funding constraints. The public hearing was designed to provide an open and constructive forum for dialogue among stakeholders, and it was noted that the House does not intend to endorse predetermined conclusions.
