Nigerian House of Representatives Forms Committee to Review Electoral Act Amendment Bill

The House of Representatives in Nigeria has formed a bipartisan conference committee to review the Electoral Act amendment bill as part of electoral reform efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections. The committee, led by Akin Rotimi and convened by the Clerk of the House, Dr.

Yahaya Danzaria, includes members such as Adebayo Balogun, Fred Agbedi, Sada Soli, Ahmadu Jaha, Iduma Igariwei, Saidu Abdullahi, and Zainab Gimba. The committee's mandate is to harmonize the differing provisions of the bill passed by both chambers of the National Assembly.

The move comes after sustained advocacy by civil society groups, political parties, and election observers following the 2023 general elections. Key areas of contention in the bill include the use of electoral technology, legal framework for result transmission, and the regulation of political parties by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The committee aims to reconcile these differences and ensure a transparent and credible electoral process.
