INEC's Amupitan Reveals Arrests in NYSC Threat Plot

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), chaired by Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, announced the identification of potential risks to its ad hoc staff, particularly members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), due to a plot uncovered through intelligence from the Department of State Services (DSS). Amupitan stated during a South-East zonal interactive meeting in Enugu that those responsible for the plot had been arrested and would face prosecution soon.
He also mentioned plans for a Security Conference to further address election security issues. Additionally, Amupitan directed a review of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) records in the South-East to eliminate obstacles to the distribution of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 General Election.
He highlighted that the National Register of Voters has surpassed 103 million registered citizens and provided details on the phases of the CVR exercise conducted in 2025 and 2026, which registered over 10 million new voters.
