FAAN Suspends Lagos Airport Tollgate Following Tinubu's Order

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) officials abandoned the tollgate at the Lagos airport after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ordered the suspension of the recently introduced cashless payment system. This directive was communicated by Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, during a briefing at the State House following a Federal Executive Council meeting.

The sudden absence of FAAN personnel at the tollgate allowed vehicles to pass freely without payment checks, contrasting sharply with the long queues experienced previously. Eyewitnesses reported that motorists could pass through the tollgate without delay, a significant change from the traffic gridlock that had been common.

President Tinubu expressed concern for the welfare of Nigerians, noting that the previous system had caused many to miss flights. The suspension of the cashless regime was aimed at improving the efficiency of operations at the airport and reducing the burden on travelers.
