Senator Abe on Opportunities from Global Oil Price Surge

Senator Abe, the chairman of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), addressed the media in Abuja regarding the recent surge in global oil prices. He highlighted that while this situation poses challenges, it also offers Nigeria an opportunity to strengthen its energy sector.

Abe noted that the increase in oil prices could translate to higher national revenue, allowing for investments in marginal fields that were previously unprofitable. He acknowledged that the global crisis affecting fuel prices is not solely a Nigerian issue but a worldwide challenge, exacerbated by conflicts that drive costs up and create hardships.

He expressed optimism that Nigeria's gas production could create new job opportunities. However, he cautioned that fluctuations in oil prices would significantly impact revenue.

Abe also called for global prayers to end conflicts, emphasizing the humanitarian implications of the crisis. Additionally, he mentioned the identification of discrepancies in crude oil measurement by Engr.
