NAF ATR-42 Aircraft Crashes in Ondo Swamp, Residents Report

On Monday, a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) ATR-42 aircraft with tail number NAF 931 crashed into a swamp in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State shortly after 10 am. Residents reported seeing aircraft parts, clothes, and suspected human remains scattered around the crash site.
The crash occurred in a waterlogged area, making it impossible for residents to reach the wreckage, much of which had sunk into the swamp. Oluboyo Olusola, a local resident, described seeing bodies and aircraft debris.
Akinte Toluwalase noted that despite immediate efforts to reach the site, the aircraft had already sunk, preventing any rescue. Ayedugbe Abel mentioned that it was raining at the time of the crash, and residents attempted to reach the location by canoe and swimming.
The Nigerian Air Force initiated search-and-rescue operations, deploying military personnel and emergency response agencies to the area. Taiwo Sadare, Chief Press Secretary to the Ilaje Local Government chairman, confirmed the challenging terrain hampered access to the crash site.
