Nigerian authorities banned Razak Omotoyossi for five years before he switched to the Benin national team, where he became a legend known for his striking prowess. The former Metz forward's professional football career was nearly derailed by the controversial ban imposed by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) for allegedly assaulting a referee during a match with Sunshine Stars.

Omotoyossi, who started his footballing journey in Lagos, expressed feeling abandoned by the NFF after the ban, which cost him a place in the Nigerian national team and led to his switch to Benin. Despite his success with the Benin national team, Omotoyossi battled depression and personal loss, ultimately leading to his tragic demise at the age of 39.
