Dalung Predicts Tinubu's Loss in 2027 Presidential Race

Solomon Dalung, a former Minister of Youth and Sports Development and current member of the African Democratic Congress, has predicted that President Bola Tinubu will lose the 2027 presidential election. During an appearance on Channels Television's Politics Today programme, Dalung stated that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has lost crucial northern backing, which was instrumental in Tinubu's 2023 victory.

He estimated that approximately 5.5 million of Tinubu's 8.7 million votes in 2023 came from northern voters, suggesting that Tinubu's actual support base may be as low as 3.7 million. Dalung attributed the decline in support to the hardships faced by northerners under Tinubu's administration and criticized the government for mismanaging public goodwill.

He emphasized that the political landscape has changed significantly since the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, whose influence was vital for securing northern votes. Dalung also referenced the APC's loss in the August 15, 2026 Osun governorship election as evidence that traditional political strategies are failing.
