Tinubu's Visit to Jos Highlights 30-Year Peace Quest

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited Jos, Plateau State, in the aftermath of the Angwan Rukuba killings, which reignited a 30-year quest for peace in the region. During his address, Tinubu emphasized the need to learn from past conflicts and urged local leaders, including Governor Caleb Mutfwang, to work together to establish peace and prosperity. He acknowledged the historical context of violence in Plateau, which began in the 1990s and has seen numerous tragic events, including the 2010 Dogo Nahawa massacre and the recent Christmas Eve massacre that claimed 150 lives. Tinubu's visit was marked by a heavy atmosphere, as he confronted the painful history of the state and called for a break from the cycle of violence. He also noted the importance of rebuilding trust among communities. In response to the ongoing security challenges, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, announced the deployment of 850 additional troops to reinforce peacekeeping efforts in the area.
