Massive Turnout at Akwa Ibom Trials for Niger Delta Games Showcases Athletes' Skills

The Akwa Ibom Trials for the Niger Delta Games saw a significant turnout on the second day, with athletes competing to secure a spot in the upcoming games. Notable athletes like Jedidiah Bassey and Princewil Itoro displayed impressive skills in boxing, captivating spectators and officials.

The event, held at the West Itam Sports Centre, featured trials in four sports, including boxing. Paul Bassey, Chairman of the State Liaison Committee for the Games Commission, commended the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for sponsoring the games and promoting talent discovery.

Athletes like Godswil Edet, a volleyball player, and Esther Idongesit, a handball player, expressed their aspirations to represent Akwa Ibom at major competitions. The first edition of the Niger Delta Games saw Akwa Ibom finish sixth, with hopes of improving in the upcoming edition scheduled for February 20-27 in Edo State.
