Lawyer Sues Tinubu, Army Over Terrorist Reintegration

Human rights lawyer Opara has initiated legal action against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Nigerian Army, filing a suit in the Federal High Court in Abuja. The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/837/2026, seeks to stop the reintegration of former Boko Haram members into society through the Army's Safe Corridor program.

Opara requests the court to restrain the Army from continuing this program pending the determination of the suit and to compel the Attorney General of the Federation to initiate criminal prosecutions against 700 repentant insurgents. The lawyer argues that reintegrating these individuals without prior prosecution violates the 1999 Constitution and lacks legal authority, effectively granting immunity to those accused of terrorism-related crimes.

Opara contends that the failure to prosecute these individuals undermines public confidence in the justice system and poses a risk to public safety. The suit emphasizes the need for judicial intervention to protect citizens' rights to life and dignity as guaranteed by the Constitution.
