Judge Warns Lawyer of Bail Revocation for Maina's Case

Justice Abubakar Kutigi of the FCT High Court in Asokoro expressed frustration over the delays in the trial of former chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina. During a hearing, Kutigi warned Maina's lawyer, Lemu, that he would revoke Maina's bail if the case continued to stall.

Lemu informed the court that he was unaware of the charges against his client and requested a two-week adjournment to familiarize himself with the case. The visibly angry judge threatened to revoke Maina's bail, identifying Lemu's actions as attempts to mock the court.

Despite this, the judge granted a two-week relief for the defense counsel. Maina is currently serving a two-year sentence for money laundering, with his release scheduled for February 25, 2025.

The court adjourned the matter until March 9, 2026, for a trial within a trial regarding the court's jurisdiction over the case.
