Okonkwo Urges INEC to Reschedule 2027 Elections

Veteran politician and Nollywood actor Okonkwo has expressed his disappointment regarding the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not scheduling the 2027 general elections in Nigeria on a single day. He argues that holding presidential and governorship elections on two different days within two weeks poses significant logistical challenges and financial burdens, particularly given Nigeria's limited resources.

Okonkwo urges the INEC chairman to consider rescheduling the elections to a single day, which he believes would cut the projected budget of ₦873 billion almost in half. He made this appeal following the release of the election timetable by INEC on Friday, February 13, 2027, which indicates that the presidential and national assembly elections are set for February 20, 2027, while the governorship and state assembly elections are scheduled for March 6, 2027.

Okonkwo's concerns reflect broader economic challenges facing Nigeria as it prepares for the elections.
