In a statement titled “My Relationships and the Aftermath,” released on his X handle, El-Rufai explained that his support for people and causes was based on his Islamic faith and personal values, not on expectations of praise or reciprocity.

He acknowledged that individuals he supported are free to respond to his circumstances as they choose, whether by speaking out or remaining silent. El-Rufai reflected on how adversity has illuminated his relationships, stating that he would not seek revenge for any perceived injustices against him, as ultimate accountability belongs to Allah.
