Tailor Arrested for Fake Bandit Invasion TikTok Video

Kowiu Oloyed, a 25-year-old tailor, was arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly filming and posting a fake TikTok video that claimed a bandit invasion in Atan Ota, Ogun State. The video, which went viral, resulted in Oloyed gaining 1,000 followers on the platform.

The police described the content of the video as misleading and capable of causing public unrest. Following the video's release on Saturday, May 23, 2026, Oloyed was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

During a video interview, Oloyed admitted to creating the false content for social media growth, stating he was inspired by a bandit sound he saw on TikTok. He initially gained 60 followers from his first video, which later received 8,000 likes, encouraging him to continue posting.

The Ogun State Police Command has warned residents against spreading unverifiable information that could incite fear and disrupt public peace.
