Gbajabiamila Nearly Lost Chief of Staff Role Over Elliot

Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to the President, disclosed that he nearly lost his position last year due to allegations involving Desmond Elliot amid a political crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly. This crisis was centered around the impeachment saga of Mudashiru Obasa, the then Speaker of the House.

Gbajabiamila recounted that President Bola Tinubu summoned him to Abuja during the height of the Obasa impeachment saga, where he was informed of intelligence reports linking Elliot to efforts aimed at destabilizing the state legislature. Gbajabiamila defended Elliot, stating that he had not been involved in any wrongdoing and that Tinubu instructed him to clarify the situation to lawmakers.

Despite the allegations, Elliot has not issued a statement regarding the claims against him. The impeachment saga began on January 13, 2025, when Obasa was accused of gross misconduct and was later reinstated after Mojisola Meranda was elected as the new Speaker.
