Diezani Alison-Madueke Denies Corruption Charges in Court

Diezani Alison-Madueke, the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, appeared at Southwark Crown Court on Monday, where she denied multiple corruption charges, including five counts of accepting bribes and one count of conspiracy to commit bribery. The 65-year-old stated she neither requested nor accepted bribes in exchange for government contracts.

The prosecution alleged that she received substantial funds from Nigerian businessmen for personal expenses, including £2 million spent at Harrods and £4.6 million on property renovations in London. Alison-Madueke explained that expenses incurred during her official duties were reimbursed by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

She described the financial structure of her organization as "messy" and claimed that she was not involved in the arrangements for her stays at luxury accommodations. Additionally, she denied knowledge of a £100,000 cash delivery allegedly made on her behalf.

The trial continues, with her brother, Doy Agama, also implicated in the conspiracy charges.
