Ex-US Mayor Rejects Obi-Kwankwaso 2027 Ticket Proposal

Mike Arnold, a former U.S. mayor, openly opposed the potential political alliance between Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano State, ahead of the 2027 general elections. In a lengthy post on social media dated May 25, 2026, Arnold described the proposed ticket as a disaster for Nigeria, arguing that the country needs to break away from its recycled political structures.

He expressed concerns about Kwankwaso's past, including allegations of links to extremist networks, the introduction of Sharia law during his governorship, and issues related to pension fund misappropriation. Arnold emphasized that he would actively oppose the ticket regardless of Obi's intentions, warning that Kwankwaso's political entrenchment and religious governance would be detrimental.

He also referenced historical tragedies and security issues in Nigeria, asserting that Kwankwaso's political actions have contributed to ongoing problems in the country.
