IAEA Reports Missile Impact at Iran's Bushehr Nuclear Plant

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) disclosed that a missile impacted Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant on Tuesday, with no damage or casualties reported. The agency, based in Vienna, noted that the incident did not affect the operational capabilities of the facility.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi emphasized the need for caution to prevent any escalation that could lead to nuclear risks. He reiterated calls for restraint during the ongoing conflict to avoid potential nuclear accidents.

The Bushehr nuclear power plant, located in southwestern Iran, is the country's only operational nuclear reactor and was first connected to the national grid in 2011. Iran has faced stringent sanctions from the United States since 2018, following Washington's withdrawal from the nuclear agreement, which had offered sanctions relief in exchange for restrictions on Tehran's nuclear program.

Western powers continue to express concerns regarding Iran's nuclear ambitions, despite Iran's denials of seeking to develop nuclear weapons and its claims of maintaining a peaceful nuclear program.
