Ibrahim Gusau Downplays Interest in Super Eagles Coach Amid African National Team Speculations

Ibrahim Gusau, associated with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), dismisses rumors of Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle's potential move to other African national teams like Tunisia and Mali. Chelle, who led Nigeria to a third-place finish in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, has garnered praise for his coaching.

Despite speculations and reports of interest from Tunisian football officials, Gusau asserts the NFF's dedication to retaining Chelle. Chelle, who signed a two-year contract with the NFF in January 2025, emphasizes his long-term commitment to coaching the Nigerian national team.

Under Chelle's tenure, Nigeria faced challenges in the 2026 World Cup qualification campaign, failing to secure a spot for the second consecutive time. Chelle's coaching record includes overseeing 18 official matches, with 12 wins, six draws, and two losses, including a heartbreaking defeat to DR Congo in the African World Cup playoff in November 2025 and a loss to Morocco in the AFCON semi-final two months later.
