Ahmad Questions Obi's Leadership Amid Defection Reports

Bashir Ahmad, who served as a media aide to the late ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, responded to reports regarding opposition leader Peter Obi's potential defection from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Ahmad stated that if Obi cannot confront party primaries, he would be unfit to lead Nigeria.

The reports suggest that Obi is reconsidering his political strategy amid challenges within the ADC, where he struggles to gain blind support and compete fairly among fellow aspirants. Ahmad emphasized that the ability to face party primaries is fundamental to democracy and questioned Obi's intent to build a broad national consensus necessary for leading Nigeria's diverse and complex society.

The Kwankwasiyya movement indicated that Obi and Rabi'u Kwankwaso are set to defect to the NDC next week, highlighting the ongoing political maneuvering ahead of the 2023 presidential elections.
