Ikpeba Critiques Super Eagles After Loss to Guinea-Bissau

Former Nigerian international Victor Ikpeba criticized Super Eagles forwards Ademola Lookman, Akor Adams, and Taiwo Awoniyi after Nigeria's 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in a 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on September 29. Awoniyi, who started due to George Ilenikhena's fitness issues, struggled and was substituted at halftime.

Lookman and Adams also failed to make an impact and were replaced by Ilenikhena and Tolu Arokodare. Ikpeba stated that Ilenikhena and Moses Usor should have started the match, expressing disappointment in the performance of established attackers.

He emphasized the high expectations for the Super Eagles, given Nigeria's population of 250 million, and lamented the manner of the defeat. Ikpeba defended former coaches Jose Peseiro and Gernot Rohr, arguing that the criticism they received was not entirely justified.

Following the defeat, Nigeria returned to Abuja and remains second in Group L with three points, while Guinea-Bissau leads with six points.
