El-Rufai Declares Silence Amid ICPC Investigation

Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has publicly declared that he will only address allegations against him in court, opting not to respond to inquiries from the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC). El-Rufai submitted two handwritten statements to the ICPC on February 19 and 20, 2026, where he emphasized his right to remain silent in the presence of his lawyer, Ubong E.

Akpan. He described the ongoing investigation as politically motivated and expressed his belief that the ICPC's actions amount to political persecution.

El-Rufai has been under investigation for nearly two years, and as of now, the ICPC has not filed formal charges against him. He anticipates that a decision will be made within 48 hours regarding whether the case will proceed to court or collapse at the investigation stage.

El-Rufai's membership in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has also been cited as a factor in the political pressure he faces.
