Senator Imasuen Opposes NHIA Zonal Office Relocation

Neda Imasuen, the Senator representing Edo South, has voiced his displeasure regarding the relocation of the South South Zonal Office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) from Benin City to Port Harcourt, Rivers State. This statement was made following a Senate plenary session where protests were raised by socio-cultural groups, including Edo First, against the move.

The current South South Zonal Director of NHIA, Obaro Ologbo, was accused of influencing this relocation. Imasuen described the decision as unacceptable and insensitive, emphasizing Benin City's historical significance as an administrative hub within the South South zone.

He referenced an internal memo dated February 4, signed by Halima Zakari, the Director of Human Resources, which announced the creation of seven NHIA zonal offices nationwide, including the relocation of the South South office to Port Harcourt. Imasuen stressed the need for fairness, equity, and broad consultation in such significant decisions and assured residents of Edo South and Edo State that the Senate would thoroughly examine the issue and pursue justice through relevant legislative channels.
