Five NYSC Kidnap Suspects Plead Not Guilty in Imo Court

Five individuals, Mohammed Aliyu, Usman Aliyu, Babangida Aliyu, Ibrahim Jiji, and Aminu Haliru (aka Little Pepper), have pleaded not guilty to charges related to the abduction of 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and two others on October 1, 2026. The abductions occurred along the Owerri-Onitsha Road in Umunoha, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.

The suspects were arraigned by the Department of State Service (DSS) at the State High Court in Owerri, presided over by Justice Emeka Orafu. During the proceedings, it was revealed that the suspects allegedly collected a ransom of 48 million naira from their victims.

The suspects appeared in court dressed in white attire, which suggested they were high-profile kidnappers. Following the hearing, their counsel, Paschal Ofoma, stated that the suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty and confirmed that the case would resume on October 28.
