Speaker Abbas Justifies Hybrid Election Result Transmission

Speaker Abbas revealed the rationale behind the National Assembly's approval of both electronic and manual transmission of election results during a meeting with the Spanish Ambassador in Abuja. He noted that Nigeria's low internet penetration could disenfranchise many voters if only electronic transmission were used.

Abbas argued that a hybrid system combining both methods is feasible and necessary to ensure that all Nigerians can participate in the electoral process, especially in the upcoming 2027 elections. He acknowledged concerns regarding the reliability of real-time electronic transmission due to internet service challenges in the country.

Abbas also expressed hope for continued support from Spain to improve Nigeria's democratic processes. The discussion highlighted the importance of ensuring credible and transparent elections, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) prepared to conduct the elections under the new framework.
