In Partnership with Women in Arts, Nollywood Filmmaker Champions Gender-equitable Storytelling

Nollywood filmmaker Biodun Stephen is partnering with Women in Arts to promote gender-equitable storytelling in the Nigerian film industry. Despite Nollywood's global reach, there is a lack of female perspectives both on and off-screen.

Stephen, known for foregrounding complex female characters in her films, is launching the Female Representation Advancement in Media project at the Nigerian Film & TV Summit 2025. This initiative aims to provide mentorship, training, and resources to emerging female filmmakers, empowering them to compete on an equal footing with their male counterparts.

The project also seeks to secure funding and dismantle barriers that have stifled female creativity in Nollywood. By championing women's voices and narratives, Stephen hopes to transform the industry and create a more equitable and diverse cinematic landscape.
