Indian Language School Wins ChessMasters 2026 Tournament

The Indian Language School emerged as the champion of the FirstBank-sponsored ChessMasters 2026 tournament, which took place at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos. The tournament featured an intense competition among 750 pupils and had a total prize pool of N10 million, with the winner receiving N5 million.

The Indian Language School secured victory through a tie-break despite having six wins, while Jareb Private School finished second with six wins as well. Dupeolu Childrenland School claimed third place with five wins and one loss.

Olayinka Ijabiyi, the Group Head of Market Corporate Communications at FirstBank, commended the organization of the tournament and expressed the bank's commitment to developing talent through sponsorship. The Vice President of the Nigeria Chess Federation, Princ Adeyinka Adewol, highlighted the tournament's role in nurturing future chess talent and emphasized chess as a tool for education and leadership development.
