INEC Links AI-Generated Voter Photos to Registration Officers

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has linked the emergence of suspected AI-generated photographs in its preliminary voter register to the actions of certain registration officers who misused their access to the commission's database. Dr Lawrence Bayode, INEC's Director of Information and Communication, disclosed this during an interview on Arise TV.
An internal review revealed that some officers used their login credentials to introduce irregular entries into the voter database. Bayode clarified that the problematic entries included not only AI-generated images but also photographs resulting from poor registration practices.
The commission utilized its Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) to identify these irregularities. The preliminary register was published on October 26, prompting public scrutiny regarding the commission's verification processes.
Although Bayode stated that the affected officers were not all from one location and that the issue did not involve the entire workforce, he could not confirm the motives behind their actions or whether all disputed records had been resolved.
