INEC Names AbdulRazaq and Mustapha for Kwara Senate Race
The Independent National Electoral Commission released the final list of candidates for the 2027 National Assembly elections in Kwara State. The list includes Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and Senator Saliu Mustapha for the Kwara Central senatorial seat, along with Kolo Baba Jiya for Kwara North.
Mustapha's candidacy comes after his defection from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party following an unsuccessful bid for the APC governorship ticket. He criticized the APC's leadership for abandoning principles of internal democracy.
Mustapha obtained the PDP ticket through a substitution process, setting up a contest against AbdulRazaq, who is seeking election to the Senate as his governorship tenure ends. The list features candidates from 13 political parties for Kwara Central, 11 for Kwara North, and 11 for Kwara South.
The political landscape is shifting as Mustapha's defection and Baba Jiya's candidacy face legal challenges.
