ACEN President: Nigeria's Infrastructure Deficit Stalls Growth

Lago Adebajo, President of the Association for Consulting Engineering in Nigeria (ACEN), addressed the significant infrastructure deficit hindering Nigeria's growth. He described the infrastructure gap as a formidable barrier to national development, stressing the importance of consulting engineers as strategic partners to bridge this divide.

Adebajo noted that improvements in infrastructure such as healthcare, energy, technology, and transportation are essential for enhancing quality of life and enabling economic growth. He lamented that millions in Nigeria lack access to reliable electricity, safe water, and efficient transportation, highlighting the scale of the challenges faced.

Adebajo called for consistent focus on innovative and collaborative solutions, urging policymakers to engage with engineering experts to ensure projects meet global standards for safety and sustainability. Ogun State Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedepo, who attended as a special guest, echoed the need for consulting engineers to play a critical role in shaping national development.

Adebajo also urged the new president to work on expanding the capacity of ACEN members and deepen stakeholder engagement.
