Iran to Select New Supreme Leader Amid Regional Tensions

Iran is set to choose a new Supreme Leader after the death of Ali Khamenei, with the Assembly of Experts, consisting of 88 members, expected to convene within the next 24 hours to make this critical decision. Hossein Mozafari, an expert in the assembly, emphasized the importance of avoiding speculation and rumors until the assembly formally convenes.

This development follows heightened tensions in the Middle East, particularly after Khamenei's death, which occurred last week due to a joint strike by the United States and Israel. Meanwhile, the United States condemned Iran's recent drone strike in the border area of Azerbaijan, describing the attack as an unnecessary escalation that violated Azerbaijan's sovereignty and resulted in civilian injuries.

U.S. Department of State spokesman Tommi Pigott warned that such assaults against American partners in the region would not be tolerated.
