Iran Sets Conditions for Reopening Strait of Hormuz

Iran has established a series of conditions for the reopening of the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz, which has been effectively restricted since late February due to military actions by the United States and Israel. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that negotiations with Oman regarding transit and management of the strait are nearing completion, but any agreement hinges on compensation for damages incurred during the war.

Additionally, Iranian security chief Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr outlined demands that include an end to military aggression against Iran and its allies, the removal of a US naval blockade, lifting sanctions, and the release of frozen Iranian assets. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps asserted that Iran's opponents must accept these conditions for the waterway to reopen.

The situation has led to a significant decrease in commercial traffic through the strait, with Iran targeting vessels it accuses of circumventing its preferred maritime routes. Recent incidents have raised concerns about the safety of international shipping in the area.
