Airlines Lose N7.5bn Amid Israel-Iran Tensions

Airlines in Nigeria have reported losses exceeding N7.5 billion as a result of grounded flights due to escalating military tensions between Israel and Iran. Major carriers, including Emirates and Qatar Airways, have been unable to operate scheduled services, leaving aircraft stranded and passengers disrupted.

Emirates, utilizing Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with a capacity of 354-360 passengers, and Qatar Airways with Boeing 787-800 aircraft capable of carrying 210-250 passengers, have faced significant operational challenges. Emirates projected a loss of approximately N2.694 billion for round trips, while Qatar Airways anticipated losses of around N2.184 billion.

The conflict has severely impacted Nigeria's economy, with airlines grappling with financial implications and passengers expressing frustration over travel disruptions. The situation has been exacerbated by airspace closures in the region, affecting travel schedules and leading to a halt in operations for these airlines.
