Fubara Withdraws from River State Governorship Race

Siminalayi Fubara announced his withdrawal from the 2027 governorship race in River State on Wednesday night. This decision was communicated through a statement signed by him, indicating that it followed consultations with family, political allies, and close associates.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) River State chapter explained that the withdrawal was part of a broader agreement aimed at restoring peace and stability within the political structure of River State. Chibuike Ikenga, the APC River State Secretary, clarified that the decision was not imposed by Nyesom Wike's political bloc, which is loyal to the former governor.

Ikenga described the move as an outcome of an internal agreement to chart a new political direction for the state, emphasizing that it was made in the interest of peace and progress. The APC leadership and independent stakeholders were involved in the decision-making process.
