Manchester Munich Memorial Foundation mourns theft of items

Items commemorating the victims of the 1958 Munich Air Disaster were stolen from a memorial in Munich on October 30. The Manchester Munich Memorial Foundation (MMMF) expressed sadness over the theft, which involved a glass display case being smashed with a stone.
The incident occurred between 08:00 and 13:00 local time at Manchesterplatz. The memorial marks the site of the plane crash on February 6, 1958, which resulted in 23 fatalities, including eight Manchester United players.
Among the stolen items was a glass sculpture presented to former mayor Dieter Reiter and several medals. Ifty Ahmed, chairman of MMMF, stated that the theft would not erase the memories of the victims or weaken the friendship between Manchester and Munich.
Red Docs Munich, a group of Bayern Munich supporters, helps maintain the memorial and reported the damage. Manchester United offered to cover repair costs, but the foundation chose to pay for them.
The glass was replaced the same day.
