Japan designates Kisarazu as Nigerians’ hometown

Japan has designated Kisarazu as the hometown for Nigerians as part of a new partnership announced on the sidelines of the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development. The Japanese government has created a special visa category for highly skilled and innovative young Nigerians who want to move to Kisarazu to live and work.

Artisans and workers from Nigeria are also ready to upskill and benefit from this special visa arrangement to work in Japan. The Japan International Cooperation Agency ceremony also named cities in Tanzania, Ghana, and Mozambique as hometowns for their respective nationals.

The Nigerian Charge d'Affaires and the Acting Ambassador to Japan expressed hope that this designation would increase the population in Kisarazu and contribute to regional revitalization efforts. The announcement was made as part of Japan's commitment to investing in Africa, with a focus on private sustainable growth, youth and women empowerment, and regional integration.
