NMDPRA Confirms Jet Fuel Prices Amid Airline Concerns

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) reported that the current price of jet fuel in Nigeria ranges between N1,960 and N2,800 per liter as of April 17, 2026. This statement counters warnings from the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), who indicated that airlines might suspend operations on April 20, 2026, due to an unsustainable rise in jet fuel prices, which surged from N900 per liter on February 28 to N3,300 per liter, marking a 300 percent increase within a week.

The AON's letter, dated April 14, 2026, addressed to the Executive Secretary of the Major Energy Market Association of Nigeria, Mr. Clement Isong, highlighted that the airlines are unable to absorb these rising costs, which threaten the viability of their operations. The NMDPRA assured the public of a robust supply of aviation fuel, with sufficient inland stock for 12 days and refinery stock for 62 days, totaling 74 days of supply.

They emphasized that the price of aviation fuel is fully deregulated and driven by market dynamics.
