Jonathan Reaffirms ECOWAS Role in Sierra Leone Meeting

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan met with Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio in Freetown to reaffirm his role in the ECOWAS peace mission. The engagement, which took place as part of Jonathan's capacity as a special envoy for President Bola Tinubu, focused on issues of mutual interest, particularly peace, stability, and democratic governance in the West African region.

Jonathan expressed appreciation for President Bio's warm reception and hospitality during their discussions. This visit comes shortly after the Federal High Court in Abuja declared Jonathan eligible to contest in the 2027 presidential elections, despite having previously served two terms.

The court's decision has drawn political reactions and renewed attention to Jonathan's future in Nigerian politics, with the Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the People's Democratic Party asserting that he remains qualified to seek the presidency.
