Falana Warns of Judicial Manipulation Ahead of 2027 Elections

During the fifth Comrade Yinka Odumakin Memorial Lecture held at Airport Hotel, human rights lawyer Femi Falana expressed concerns about the potential for judicial manipulation to result in only one presidential candidate for the 2027 elections in Nigeria. He highlighted the risks posed by judicial interference in political party affairs, particularly following the Independent National Electoral Commission's decision to no longer recognize the faction of the African Democratic Congress led by David Mark.

This decision was based on a court appeal ruling that directed the maintenance of the status quo pending the resolution of a suit challenging the party's leadership. Falana criticized the judiciary for undermining democracy and warned that continued manipulation of the courts could erode public confidence in the electoral process, potentially leading to unrest among citizens who feel deprived of genuine choices.

He called on civil society organizations, labor unions, and political activists to coordinate efforts to defend democratic values.
