Nigeria Marks 27 Years of Democracy, Not True Democracy

On June 12, Nigeria marked the 27th anniversary of uninterrupted democracy, but political analyst Prof. Udenta expressed that the nation is not celebrating true democracy, only the electoral processes.

In an interview on Arise Television's prime time on Friday, Udenta stated that while Nigeria acknowledges the electoral process, it does not reflect genuine democratic values. He criticized the notion of celebrating the electoral process, arguing that it lacks substantive democracy and is merely a legal legitimacy without real stability.

He pointed out that the people of Nigeria are increasingly facing overwhelming despair and discontent, particularly in light of the current cost of living crisis, which he described as one of the worst the nation has faced.
