Lagos Building Collapse Claims One Life, Three Rescued
A two-storey building under construction collapsed in the Fadeyi area of Lagos State, resulting in one confirmed death and the rescue of three adult males. The incident occurred on Akinola Street, near Fadeyi Bus Stop, off Ikorodu Road, in the early hours of Friday.
Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), reported that the agency received a distress call at 12:10 a.m. and activated its Cobra Response Team from Onipanu Base, arriving at the scene just two minutes later. Upon arrival, they discovered that construction workers were likely trapped beneath the rubble.
Search and rescue operations commenced immediately, with safety measures implemented to protect both victims and emergency responders. Groaning sounds were heard from beneath the debris, suggesting possible survivors.
An excavator was deployed to aid the rescue efforts, and the rescued individuals received pre-hospital care from LASEMA paramedics and LASAMBUS before being taken to the hospital. LASEMA is collaborating with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Nigeria Police Force in the ongoing operations.
