Atiku Accuses Tinubu of Misleading on Power Sector Debt

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, accused President Bola Tinubu's administration of misleading the public about the settlement of debts owed to power generation companies. In a statement issued on Wednesday by his media aide, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku referenced comments from the Association of Power Generation Companies (APGC) that contradicted government claims of having settled outstanding debts.

Atiku disclosed that a N501 billion bond had not been fully disbursed, raising questions about the government's narrative on debt payments. He challenged the federal government to publish the names of power companies that received payments and the amounts disbursed.

Atiku questioned the rationale behind new borrowing when previous debt settlement programs had been deemed successful. He called for a comprehensive public audit of the power sector intervention funds raised by the Tinubu administration, emphasizing that Nigerians deserve transparency regarding the borrowing and disbursement processes, especially as debts continue to rise.
